Dark Side Of The Ring Thoughts: Ludvig Borga Hellraiser from Helsinki

  • They talked about Tony Halme last week, a name that rarely comes up anymore.
  • I read about him when he was in Japan.
  • I could tell he was a “somebody” because he was always in the mix, usually in tag teams.
  • When he popped up in the WWF, while I had never seen him before, I knew who he was and expected a big run.
  • He looked like someone Vince would have created in a lab, and he needed some new big men.
  • After a few matches, I was still waiting to see something of interest.
  • They did try. That win over Tatanka was supposed to be big, but two things: there was nothing to make him stand out, and Tatanka wasn’t as over as they might have wanted him to be.
  • He was popular, but he hadn’t really beaten anyone on that long winning streak.
  • His gimmick felt dated by the early 90s.
  • Fine on the North Carolina indie circuit as “War Eagle” Chris Chavis, but not on the worldwide platform the WWF had become by then.
  • Them following it up not a damn thing didn’t help either.
  • When he vanished, no one missed him.
  • Then, to see he was an even bigger heel in real life than he was in the ring? Man, stop.
  • His best friend growing up is an asshole, too, but he knew to filter all this bigoted trash and leave it in draft.
  • Even more disgusting is that he’s a precursor to so much of the Right-wing, xenophobic, hate-mongering that’s making everything worse in the US and Europe, which makes it worse for everyone everywhere, making his ending even more fitting.
  • Big Van Vader is going to be rough. That one will actually have a sad ending.
