Knockouts Shine Bright This Week

Reviews by Dave

Show air date: August 11, 2020

Impact Wrestling on AXS-TV put forth a good effort in the go-home show for their two-week “Emergence” special starting next week.

Eric Young defeated Willie Mack

They open hot immediately with a backstage fight between the “World Class Maniac” Eric Young and Willie Mack, looking for some payback for Young’s attack on his tag partner and friend Rich Swann. Mack wasn’t waiting for their scheduled match and taught EY the definition of “on sight”. Mack will not make my “Worst Friends in Wrestling” list. They go right into their match after one of Mack’s best promos and have a good one with Young pulling it out as Mack had him. But Mack was more focused on trying to injure Young and not win the match. The finish protected Mack and gave Young a win as he’s making a bid to be top contender. Good match, good finish.

WRESTLEHOUSE Shenanigans

More WRESTLEHOUSE shenanigans with this week’s focus on Rosemary using Larry D to make Johnny Bravo jealous and Cousin Jake Something’s date with Susie. The highlights for me were Johnny Swinger’s Lord Littlebrook story and Jake dressed like the third member of Fargo’s Fabulous Ones (see below).

The two matches were Larry D and his partner Acey Romero settling their dust-up and Susie and Alisha settling their own. The slightest disagreement will have Tommy Dreamer pop up and book a match and I love it.

Jordynne Grace defeated Kimber Lee

Kimber Lee tries to earn a Knockout title shot as she faces Jordynne Grace. Good match with Lee continuing to look better and better every week as she shakes off the ring rust. Grace wins with a rear-naked choke after dodging a swanton from the top. KO champion Deonna Purrazzo challenged Grace to a 30 min Ironman (woman) match for Emergence. I’m sure she accepts.

Kiera Hogan and Tasha Steelz defeated Havok and Nevaeh

Kiera Hogan and Tasha Steelz settle their summer-long feud with Havok and Nevaeh, winning a no-DQ tag title match. Good work and well booked as the smaller women used weapons and some good smart tag wrestling to pull it out. They had been winning their matches by outsmarting the larger women but this time, they just out-toughed them.

Rohit Raju Finesses His Way To a Title Shot

Rohit Raju shows he can finesse with the best as he gets X Division champion (Finesse Division), Chris Bey, into including him as the third opponent in the title match with TJP. Interesting segment.

It’s Trey Miguel!

TNA “champion” Moose thinks he’s challenging Suicide to a “title” match but it’s really Trey Miguel. Suicide needs to watch his bag better.

Flashback Moment: Eddie Edwards defeating CODY

Flashback Moment this week was from 4 years ago when Eddie Edwards successfully defended the TNA world title, pinning CODY. So petty, so funny.

The Good Brothers Challenge Ace Austin and Madman Fulton

The Good Brothers interrupt the Dez-Suicide match, attacking both guys, looking for their heated rivals, Ace Austin and Madman Fulton. Austin and Fulton show up on the big screen and challenge them to a tag match at Emergence. I like the match up but I didn’t like them eating up the Rascalz like that.

Eddie Edwards (c) defeated Brian Myers for the IMPACT World Championship

World champion Eddie Edwards was looking for Eric Young but got a returning Brian Myers in his Open Challenge world title match. Good wrestling match to close out and probably the best Myers has been allowed to look in years. Josh Matthews was very good here, putting over Myer’s credentials in and out of IMPACT. Edwards with the win with the Boston Knee Party to close the show. Good show.

I expect Emergence to be awesome.
