This is the first letter from the Editor for the first issue of DDT Divas Presents: The Black Wrestling Report or The BWR. Thank you for being interested. If you’re reading this, I’m grateful.
I love history. I love Black History. I love pro wrestling. Combining these three loves, I created a passion project cultivated and designed by love. So, this report will celebrate the history, culture, and impact of wrestlers from the African Diaspora. Whether they’re main-eventing pay-per-views, stealing the show in the opening match, making history, or bringing Black culture to the ring, this newsletter is about giving them their flowers and documenting their accomplishments.
Today, more than ever, it’s important to document and preserve Black History as history is being scrubbed away and rewritten. Black wrestlers have been part of wrestling since day one, but their contributions don’t always get the recognition they deserve. That’s where we come in!
Here’s what you can expect in each issue:
- Main Eventers and Show Openers: The wrestlers who headlined TV shows, PPVs, and PLEs or kicked off a show with a bang.
- Historic Wins and Firsts: Champions, record-breakers, and pioneers who changed the game.
- Incredible Moments: From entrance themes to promos to gear, the moments that made us say, “Now THAT’S for us!”
