Sasha Banks ranked number one on this year’s BRP50. Banks, who ranked number 15 on last year’s BRP50, had a successful 2020 and 2021. In 2020, Banks won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, the WWE Raw Women’s Championship, and the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship. In 2021, Banks, alongside, Bianca Belair, made wrestling history by being the first Black women to main event WrestleMania.
The Black Rasslin’ Podcast publishes The BRP50. This is the third annual BRP50 list. BRP50 showcases the 50 best Black professional wrestlers.
The Black Rasslin’ Podcast began counting down the top 50 on June 17. On Juneteenth (June 19, 2021) The Black Rasslin’ Podcast released the top 10. Rounding out the top 5 on the BRP50 were:
- Sasha Banks (WWE)
- Bobby Lashley (WWE)
- Bianca Belair (WWE)
- Big E (WWE)
- Chris Bey (IMPACT Wrestling)
The Black Rasslin’ Podcast created the ranking criteria. According to a statement from The Black Rasslin’ Podcast, wrestlers are ranked based on the following criteria:
- Win-loss record
- Titles held (length of time as champion)
- TV time
- In-ring acumen
- Overall impact
- Other factors
In addition to the BRP50, the second annual After the 50 list is set to drop. After the 50 is a collaboration between The Black Rasslin’ Podcast and We Luv Wrestling. The list spotlights Black wrestlers who are close to making the ranks of the BRP50.
