Welcome to Booker T to the NXT commentary team, replacing Wade Barrett. That can only be seen as an upgrade, even if Book does too often say 10 words when 5 would be sufficient.
Bron Breakker defeated Javier Bernal
NXT gets straight to the action with NXT champion Bron Breakker facing Javier Bernal. JD McDonagh, who faces Breakker and Ilja Dragunov in the main event of the NXT Halloween Havoc “premium live event” on Oct 22, joins commentary for the match. One way traffic and it needed to be. Good exhibition for the champ. After the match, there was an expected and nice scuffle between Breakker, McDonagh, and Dragunov.
Eh promo/video package from Alba Fyre on how she got a Women’s title match against Mandy Rose. You would think they would have NOT replayed that terrible segment from last week. I guess she kidnapped her way into a title match. They kidnap A LOT on this show.
Apollo Crews is back to reading from his diary with two good eyes. Looks like him vs Grayson Waller in a Spin the Wheel match. F–k.
Indi Hartwell defeated Valentina Feroz
Valentina Feroz was accompanied to the ring by Sanga for her match with Indi Hartwell. Then Veer comes out and Sanga leaves with him. Okay. That’s interesting.
This match wasn’t. Not bad, just boring and too long. Hartwell won.
Malik Blade and Edris Enofé defeated Brooks Jensen and Josh Briggs and The Dyad
Triple Threat Tag Team No. 1 Contenders’ Match
NXT tag champions Pretty Deadly–Kit Wilson and Elton Prince–must have found all the old Fandango costumes, so that will be their thing from now on (yawn). They watch from a perch as Malik Blade and Edris Enofé face Brooks Jensen and Josh Briggs as well as Joe Gacy’s Lame By Design/Dyad team to decide a number one contender to the tag titles. If these are your top teams, your division is in real trouble. Have Enofé and Blade won two consecutive matches all year? Nope, but I see they won this match.
If Kayden and Katana can be champs, so can they. FF.
Alba Fyre defeated Jacy Jayne
Jacy Jayne of the Nice Looking People. Fantastic character. Decent wrestler.
Had her best match to date in a losing effort against Fyre. This really wasn’t bad at all. Jayne’s getting there as a talent. She’s developing faster than the leader of her group, who’s been there for 6 years.
Immediately after the match, Sonya Deville makes a surprise return and she, Jayne, and Gigi Dolin deliver a Cerberus Bomb to Fyre through the announce table. Good segment but uh…there’s already a She-Shield so fall back, ladies. Sonya gives a good explanation for her attack on Fyre, reminding folks she and Women’s champ/Toxic Attraction leader Mandy Rose are best friends. Anyway, very good promo.
Ilja Dragunov gave us a rundown of his last year in a video package.
Wes Lee defeated Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo
Wes Lee got a win over Stacks Lorenzo. Eh. Carmelo Hayes and Trick Rochester attack Lee after the bell. Lee is saved by Oro Mensah. More eh.
Kiana James defeated Thea Hail
Kiana James, still doing her Alexandra York impersonation wrong, had a match with Thea Hail of Chase University. Nope. FF.
Main Event: Ilja Dragunov defeated Grayson Waller
Dragunov faced Grayson Waller in the main event but I got TF out of there while I was in a good mood and skipped all this to finish the Fundora/Ocampo fight on Showtime from last weekend.
A much-improved show from last week. Still not a “must-see” show but not a “must avoid” like last week.
