BTI: Steve Maclin defeated TJP
By DQ
BTI featured an open challenge by Steve Maclin, which was answered by the return of TJP. Good TV match that saw Maclin win by DQ when the referee saw Petey Williams hit Maclin with the Canadian Destroyer piledriver as he tried to save TJP from a Maclin chair attack. Perkins was not at all appreciative. Hm.
Chris Sabin defeated Sami Callihan
Impact Wrestling on AXS-TV started with a highlight clip package of the very good Emergence Impact Plus special and went right into Sami Callihan facing Chris Sabin. Very good match that saw Sabin not only kick out of the Cactus Special piledriver but then pin a bleeding from the nose Callihan with his Cradleshock slam.
Moose, the other part of this multi-man rivalry from this spring/summer, ran down and attacked both men. Eddie Edwards returned the favor from last week, saving Callihan as Moose was set to crack him with his own bat. Eddie says they’re now even. We’ll see.
Their Portion of a Go-Home for EmPowerrr
A lot of good business here as this served as their portion of a go-home show for the NWA EmPowerrr pay-per-view, featuring Mickie James (who must be auditioning for The Cheetah in the next Wonder Woman movie. I’m sure the role is filled, but I appreciate the effort). A great video package featuring the Knockouts champion “The Virtuosa” Deonna Purrazzo and her title challenger, Melina Perez.
Good confrontation with Purrazzo (with The Drama King Matthew Rehwoldt), James, Perez, and Perez’s Emergence tag partner, Trey Miguel. Nice brawl. Deonna vs Melina should be fine but the money match looks to be Deonna vs Mickie. Can’t wait.
Chris Bey defeated David Finlay
Seeking some payback for an attack on his FinJuice partner, Juice Robinson, David Finlay faced the Bullet Club’s “The Ultimate Finesser” Chris Bey in a very good, evenly fought match up. Bey finesses a win. The best singles match I’ve seen out of Finlay since arriving in Impact.
An Abuse of Power?
Surprise to see Tommy Dreamer come out during World champion Christian Cage’s in-ring promo. Talk about an abuse of power, Anthem executive Dreamer comes out and book himself into the world title picture, trying to interject himself into the Victory Road title match with Cage and “The Inevitable” Ace Austin. Interesting segment.
Rhino is on the hot seat in Violent By Design. Not the seat anyone wants to sit in.
The Influence defeated Taylor Wilde
Taylor Wilde challenged Tenille Dashwood, Madison Rayne, and Kaleb With a K to an intergender handicap match and despite a hot start, came up short. She needs some help badly. Rachael Ellering and Jordynne Grace will do nicely. A nice enough TV match but more an angle than something meant to be a blow-away match.
Damn, why they do poor Brandi Lauren like that. Su Yung and Killer Kimber claimed another one.
Main Event: Rich Swann and Willie Mack defeated The Good Brothers
Rich Swann and Willie Mack got the win over World tag champs the Good Brothers–Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows–in a non-title main event.
Good TV main event that served as an appetizer for a future title match.
The Bros don’t take the loss lying down and put Mack through a table ringside, walking off, taunting their fallen challengers.
Good ending to a good show, coming off Emergence and going into both EmPowerrr on August 28 and their own Victory Road on September 18.
