Why I’m An Ember Moon Fan

By JT

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of having Sade from DDT Divas as a  guest on my show, O-Face Wrestling Podcast. After we were done recording, Sade sent me a message letting me know that if I was interested, I could write an article for DDT Divas. I couldn’t think of anything better to write about then why I’m a fan of Ember Moon. So here we go!

I originally heard about Adrienne Reese aka Ember Moon back about a year before she signed with WWE. She was working the independent circuit as Athena The Wrestling Goddess. I instantly became a fan of the character. I then looked her up on YouTube and was amazed at how talented she was. I had been hoping WWE would recognize this and sign her. In September 2015, my wish came true. Unfortunately, I had to wait almost a whole year for her to make her televised debut on NXT. The wait was well worth it. At NXT Takeover Brooklyn II, she made her in-ring debut against Billie Kay, and wow Ember Moon really brought it! Her Eclipse had the whole arena amazed. She then spent several months in random TV matches before finally being inserted into the NXT Women’s Championship picture against Asuka.

Her very first match against Asuka at NXT Takeover Orlando on April 1, 2017, was very good but short. Ember Moon got another chance at NXT Takeover III against Asuka and still to this day that was my favorite Ember Moon match. I was jumping up and down like a little kid in excitement when she nailed Asuka with the Eclipse. After the match was over, I was disappointed that Ember lost because I felt like there was no better wrestler to end Asuka’s streak then Ember. But I was very proud of her for her outstanding performance. No one to this day had taken Asuka to the level that Ember did.

Finally, on November 18th at NXT Takeover WarGames, Ember Moon captured the NXT Women’s title and in Fatal Four-Way match against Kairi Sane, Nikki Cross, and Peyton Royce. Seeing Ember’s emotion to winning the title definitely brought a tear to my eye seeing how much that meant to her. Then at the very first Women’s Royal Rumble Match Ember Moon entered at #23 which had me so stoked to see her in a WWE ring, duking it out with the main roster women.

I was on my toes when she and Asuka went head to head for the first time since their NXT Takeover match in Brooklyn. Ember then had her last and final match in NXT at Takeover New Orleans against Shayna Baszler. Two days later on RAW, she made her main roster debut in a tag team match teaming with Nia Jax against Mickie James and Alexa Bliss. Ember got the win by nailing Alexa with her Eclipse.

Since making her main roster debut, we have seen Ember on TV plenty of times but finally, on July 16, 2019, Ember became the number one contender for Bayley’s Smackdown Women’s Championship. Ember and Bayley went one on one at Summerslam and Bayley ended up retaining her title against Ember in a well-fought match. Since then Ember has teased having another match against Bayley but that has yet to happen. Now, unfortunately, Ember is out with an injury, so hopefully, she can have a speedy recovery and finally become a champion once again.

As far as why I’m a die-hard Ember Moon fan is because, in general, I think she’s a very talented wrestler who brings so much passion and energy to the ring. Her athleticism and striking abilities are off the chart. I love her whole war goddess character. Also, I feel like I relate to her on a personal as well. Like Ember, I was bullied as a kid so we both went through similar struggles. I know she is big on standing up to bullies so that means a lot to me that she will stand up for others who can’t stand up for themselves. We both are huge geeks and gamers. I love seeing her be herself on Up Up Down Down. What I’d do just to get a chance to play a video game with her.

Well, that’s why I’m a huge Ember Moon fan and I will always support her regardless of how her career goes. I just hope to finally see her as a WWE Women’s Champion one day.
